Nike had a commercial in the 1980's that featured Spike Lee and Michael Jordan with a tag line "It's In The Shoes"! They could not have been more correct. Getting the proper fitting shoe will make a would of difference for your feet. There are so many choices so where do we begin. First off the most important thing is to get measured properly. Certain higher end shoe stores have trained their employees to measure feet properly. There is something called a Brannock device. It has the ability to properly measure both the length and width of your foot. Once you have the proper measurement, you can shop for shoes on your on your own. So when is the best time to go shopping for shoes? Your foot does swell as the day progresses. With that being said mid-afternoon between 1-3pm is the best time. Ok your foot is measured and its mid afternoon, lets go shopping.

I always get asked what are the best type of shoes to get? There are certain brands that are better for your foot type, so how do you determine that. Shoes are built on a last; with that being said there are 3 types of lasts. They are straight, semi-curved, and curved. But how do you know? This is simple. Turn over the shoe and look at the sole. Start from the heel and think of an imaginary line thats splitting the shoe. If the line splits the shoe equal it is straight last. If you noticed about a 1/3 of the shoe going on the inside and if you noticed that 2/3 of the front part of the shoe go to the inside it's curved. So what type of shoe is right for you. If you have a flat foot, the straight and semi-curved last shoe is best for you, while if you have a higher arched foot semi-curved or curved is best for you. Certain brands are built more curved than straight. It's always best to go somewhere and spend the little extra money and get properly fit and sold the right shoe!
